Best Kids' Parties: Pinwheel Party

My Party

Name: Gabe, 1
Location: Indianapolis, IN

To celebrate my little Gabe TURNING the big ONE, we threw him a Pinwheel themed birthday party. I went back and forth on colors for weeks but eventually settled on shades of light blue, turquoise and green with accents of grey and chocolate brown. Patterns used included polka dots, stripes, and other mod circular designs.

My favorite aspect of the party were the pinwheel-themed save the dates, invitations, and thank you cards that I designed. They invited guests to whirl or spin in for some fun and really played on the twirling of a pinwheel.

Once at the party, guests were greeted with twirling pinwheels in the yard and a pinwheel wreath. Personalized pinwheels with the phrase "Gabe is turning one!" were used throughout all of the party decor. Pinwheels were propped into white tin buckets filled with wheatgrass, used as cupcake toppers, and strung onto pennants and banners. Guests munched on treats like pinwheel sandwiches and twirly pasta salad. To integrate the color scheme into the food limeade with blueberries was served to drink (with the cutest striped straws). The dessert was homemade key lime cupcakes with key lime cream cheese icing. Yum.

Although putting the party together was a whirl, the fun Gabe and my family had was so worth it. We happened to be moving into a new home the following week, so the party was very sentimental as well - not only because our little guy had hit the big ONE but also because my husband and I were leaving our first home. We will always look back on this party with so many bittersweet memories.
