When my husband and I started thinking about how to celebrate our little man's third birthday we wanted to plan a day that catered to his sensibilities. The little boy loves action, adventure, running, jumping, and pretending. With his help, we settled on a pirate theme, but were not satisfied with the options for rentals and party-planning in our NYC area.
Everything was ridiculously expensive! So, we decided to roll up our sleeves and do it ourselves; two pirate ships, planks, pirate costumes for all the kids, make-your-own treasure maps, temporary tattoos, and lots of booty! Sweet Bakery in Hoboken (a welcome alternative to Carlo's Bakery) did the cake and all food and amazing pirate-themed cupcakes were done by Sugarloaf Confections, a start-up catering company, hand-crafted by a local mom in our neighborhood. It was an unbelievable day that didn't break the bank!

Wow! This party looks like a ton of fun. I especially love the boat and the walking plank.
