Our daughter's first birthday was a destination party in my husband's summer house steps away from the beautiful Mediterranean seacoast. I knew the decor had to be able to survive a 16 hour international flight, and would be small enough to fit inside a carry-on.
I was able to pack my homemade fabric buntings, birthday banner, and the cute wooden bird whistles. The rest of the decor was made out of good ole' construction paper and tissue paper. It was hard to find party supplies in the small town, so we ended up making our own. Bright cheerful paper birds, festive paper lanterns, and tissue flower pom poms were crafted.
The theme became "Rainbow Birds" since everything was so colorful and our daughter's nickname is "kus" in Turkish meaning "small bird." The food was Turkish with spinach borek, beef kofte, homemade mini cupcakes and cookies adorned with the "evil eye" motif. Looking back at all the pictures, I am glad almost everything was home-made. We even blew our own balloons!
Lovely - thanks Jadeness!
