For Aedan's first birthday party I was inspired by the invitation my husband and I chose. I loved the vintage look and the red and aqua color combo. Using that as my starting point I (obsessively) trolled eBay for vintage milk glass vases and serving pieces as well as vintage tablecloths that featured red and aqua.
I made the banner using scrapbook paper and ribbons and I found great vintage looking tissue paper decorations at Shop Sweet Lulu. On the main table I used red carnations and roses in white milk glass bud vases as the centerpiece. We also made up bags of popcorn for everyone using vintage looking popcorn bags I found on Etsy.
I kept the red and aqua theme going with the dessert table. Besides the cake I used red and blue candy and aqua, red, and white macaron cookies. I also made blue candy covered Oreo pops and white chocolate covered pretzels dipped in aqua sugar crystals. Besides the vintage white milk glass serving pieces I also used red and aqua trays and bowls I found at Target and Ikea on the table.
My husband is a teacher and created a "Famous Firsts" quiz game that he played with the guests, who were all adults except for one other baby. After the quiz we asked all of our guests to don aqua and red party hats, another Etsy find that I embellished with tissue trim, and have their pictures taken with the birthday boy. Everyone happily obliged and participated in the photo shoot. Then it was time for cake and Aedan happily mushed his first piece of cake into his mouth, and everywhere else!
After signing the same guestbook many of them had written in at my baby shower our guests left the party with a homemade cookie in adorable aqua striped treat bags I also found at Shop Sweet Lulu. It was a sweet ending to very sweet day!
