We didn't want Ben's first birthday party to be too babyish, so we decided to go with a "rock" theme, toned down a bit for the 1-year-old set.
We asked all of the party guests to wear their favorite band t-shirts, and many of them did, including Ben, who sported a Rush shirt. Mom made most of the decorations by hand, including a garland of guitars, cassette tape cupcake toppers, and a sign for our 6 foot tall giraffe greeter which said "for those about to rock" (he also wore rock socks). Mom, who is an artist, also painted rock-style portraits of Ben and five of his best baby friends as a decoration/party favor.
The party was a bit hit, and Ben enjoyed rocking out and getting his first taste of cupcake!
