Inessa loves a party and does not wait for a special occasion to throw one. Even though there were no birthdays on the horizon she boldly set sail for Partyland to celebrate the beginning of summer: I started by creating little sailboat invitations. After that, the ideas quickly accumulated and I had a full-blown party on my hands. I challenged myself to do it as economically as possible and ended up spending only $20.A huge paper-mache marlin served as a focal point and was a fun project to tackle with Nick. Garlands of paper sailing pennants, cut-outs of anchors and ship wheels, and Swedish Fish are just a few of the thrifty decorations I employed throughout the room. Of course newspaper sailor hats were a must and proved to be an essential prop for the photo booth. Sailboat cupcakes served as a preview to the big finale, a model sailboat outside made from cardboard boxes which the two kids and the dog could all get inside of. All in all the party was a blast and it was particularly rewarding to work closely with Nick creating the decorations.
Everything is documented beautifully at Inessa's blog, Diaper Style Memoirs, including detailed instructions on how to make those great little sailboat invitations.
