Best Kids Parties: Southern Blues

My Party

Name: Henry, 1
Location: Moline, IL

My one-year-old Henry has been obsessed with guitars and music since he was born. He loves his dad's guitar and his favorite toy is his ukelele. He loves listening and dancing to old records on his great grandpa’s record player that lives in our living room.

So I knew I wanted a party theme that played into music and the guitar. But I didn’t want to go the normal “rock and roll” route. We ended up going with a Southern Blues birthday party with a rustic Americana feel. (Henry was born Memorial Day weekend.)

Photos of my son with his "guitar" were central to the party. The invites set the tone and were designed to look like a vintage concert poster. Large black and white engineering prints were tacked to the wall, patriotic pennants and rosettes were hung throughout and DIY marquis lit letters were the showpiece on the mantel. Food was traditional Southern BBQ. Despite rain and cold weather, our son and all our family and friends had a wonderful time celebrating our little star.
