Best Kids Parties: The Wizard of Oz

My Party

Names: Sailor (3) & Atticus (1)
Location: Eagle Rock, CA

My daughter, Sailor, loves "The Wizard of Oz." When she got a Dorothy dress-up outfit for Christmas, she decided that she wanted a Wizard of Oz birthday party. Sailor and her baby brother, Atticus, were both born in May, so I figured I would do a joint Wizard of Oz party for her 3rd birthday and his 1st birthday.

I had a lot of fun planning their party. It is a theme with endless possibilities: blue gingham tablecloths, baskets of poppies, picnic basket goody bags, ruby slipper cookies, a yellow brick walkway leading to the backyard...and more!

All of the food even fit the theme: Glinda's sandwich wands, "Over the Rainbow" fruit cups, an Emerald City veggie tray, yellow brick cheese plate, and red ruby chips and salsa. We even hired a Dorothy impersonator to come and perform for the kids.

The kids played "Pin the Heart on the Tinman" and "Melt the Witch," where they threw water balloons at a painting of the Wicked Witch. We also had a rainbow piñata filled with little toys. The bigger kids had chocolate Wizard of Oz cupcakes and the babies enjoyed a "baby cake" sweetened with apple juice instead of sugar.

Overall it was an awesome day. The kids and adults all enjoyed themselves. Now onto next year's theme...

How creative! Thanks Libby!
