Best Kids Parties: Strawberries

My Party

Name: Arlo (2)
Location: Portland, Oregon

My daughter's love of fruit runs deep. When our strawberries were in full swing a couple months ago, we decided that the theme for her 2nd birthday must be "Strawberries" (with a side of chocolate, of course).

I started to fret when I realized that the end of July isn't really strawberry season anymore but I was able to find a farm stand still selling big ripe berries so our party came to fruition.

I tried to keep it simple, collecting as many red and green items from around the house as possible. I found a tin of adorable vintage papers at a local shop to make the signage with. Some borrowing from friends and scouring of local party supply stores as well as a couple big box stores and I was able to pull off strawberry themed gift bags as well.

We wanted the food to be more savory than sweet so that the cake could shine for dessert. Strawberry bruschetta, strawberry dusted popcorn, strawberry salsas and a big strawberry salad were all a big hit. The cake was a chocolate zuchinni carrot cake with strawberry cream cheese frosting. Our birthday girl and all her friends had a fabulous time getting tattoos, painting, playing in the new sand box and of course, eating cake!

Thanks, Bria!
