For my son's first birthday, I developed the concept "Time Flies" for his party, playing with the numbers 1 through 12 representing his age in months.

I used the chevron pattern throughout the decoration and focused on clocks (and hourglasses), numbers and lots of colors. This party was planned with my kids in mind. I tried to get them involved as much as I could in the sweets preparation and the numerous craft projects, such as making the food card holders, pastry stands, balloon wreath, paper pom poms, party hats and treat boxes, ribbon skirt for the highchair, aromatherapy play dough for favors, etc. I also carried the whimsical tone through the food presentation by using food coloring to stain wood skewers and colored craft pom poms to embellish food picks. I baked a "rainbow" cake and covered it in white buttercream frosting for a "surprise effect" when opened. I also made cake pops that were white outside and colorful inside.

We had a homemade "party booth" using old costumes and some inexpensive props, which was the "life of the party" (mainly among the adults, since the kids were engaged in "free play" - running around the apartment, that is :-)
