Best Kids Parties: Tractors

My Party

Name: Clark (2)
Location: Austin, TX

For months leading up to Clark's second birthday he told us he wanted a "tractor party". We are still unsure how he knew he could choose a theme! I was under the impression I had a few more years of deciding. I would have never in a million years chosen a tractor/road construction theme, but Clark was insistent!

We had his first birthday at our house, which was nice, but stressful. This year I scoured local parks for the perfect location. It just so happened one of our favorite nearby parks was undergoing massive road construction efforts to the entire perimeter. We decided that would be our location since there were dump trucks, excavators, pavers, etc. that were parked within mere feet of the park. We never imagined in our wildest dreams all of this machinery would actually be in action the day of the party!

Austin had large amounts of rain the week leading up to the party and forced the construction workers to work on this particularly Saturday. Clark and his friends were in complete awe! We also decided to incorporate a building theme as well. All of the guests received a Home Depot tool belt with their own set of tools and hard hat. My husband, an architect, decided to take on the task of assembling a small structure the kids could color, hammer and play in. It was also a huge hit!

The idea of a construction worker's picnic also came into play. We made sack lunches for all our guests using cardboard gable boxes that loosely resembled vintage metal dome lunch boxes. My husband also used Clark's initials to make a personalized CAT logo that we spray painted onto all the boxes. We purchased large orange tarps for guests to sit on and eat their lunch. For favors we found an etsy seller to make dump truck soaps with a tag that read, "Clean up Crew: Thanks for getting dirty with me today!".

Clark still talks about his tractor birthday on a daily basis. I honestly don't have a clue how I will be able to measure up next year.

What fun! Thanks Carrie! (And good luck next year!)
