Best Kids Parties: Wise Owl Book Party

My Party)

Name: Coen
Location: Jackson, MS

I decided to do an owl themed book party for Coen's first birthday because he loves books and owls have been his "theme" animal (or mine) throughout his first year. We'd exhausted his small collection of books over and over since he was born, so I knew he'd definitely like some more books.

We asked guests, if they wished to bring a gift, to bring books instead of toys. It was a big hit for everyone involved, and Coen got almost 40 new books to read.

I was on a tight budget for the party so I decided to keep the decor simple. I used owl figurines that I already own as accents on the tables and mantle. I also decorated the tables with burlap, repurposed glass vases filled with flowers and old Shakespeare books. I made the front door hanger from a worn wooden frame, a yarn wrapped "1", fabric remnants, twine, & a plush owl that my friend made for Coen when he was born.

I used free printables {links below} that I found online to decorate the food table, cupcakes and favor bags. For the mantle I printed out his monthly photos that I'd taken via Instagram. I clipped them with clothespins to a strand of baker's twine that I strung along the mantle. They were the guests favorite thing about the party - mine too.
The party was late afternoon so I served simple finger foods that were adult and kid friendly. I think everyone had a great time.

This party, though exhausting, was a joy to plan and decorate for. I know Coen will only remember it through pictures, but it's a day I won't soon forget.
