It's January here at AT, which means we're supporting fresh starts and focusing on revamping your bedroom. The most important room in your home, this is a great month to declutter and make any upgrades because A. it's cold outside and B. sheets and bedding are on huge sale this year across the country, so the SUPER expensive stuff, Italian sheets, etc, are now within reach...
As far as trends, what I'm seeing this year is that people's fascination with the chic, more formal Hotel Bedroom is fading, and a much more homey, colorful and playful look is feeling much more appropriate for now. Perhaps this is the bedroom equivalent of comfort food?

No surprise there... the sheets are colorful, fun, and cheerful, so no doubt you'd turn up your nose.
I think in the right setting those butterflies are just dandy.

Yes, *everyone* is entitled to an opinion (about the items posted, and the comments of fellow posters, as you already demonstrated).
I am just not a fan of opinions that use words like "barf." And, come to think of it, "hate" when it comes to something so innocuous as a bedspread. Also, posters who do nothing but find fault and flaws just get old, in a place I come to be amused and entertained and taken away form the dreary and depressing.
And guess what? "10-year-old-girl's room would be one of the aforementioned "in the right places."

But I think the butterflies are whimsical and fun, and I'm not 10 any longer. (I probably wouldn't choose the butterflies for my own room because I like plain colors and a higher degree of elegance. Still, just based on looks and not price, I can see them in a bright colorful room -- why not?)
Those gray Matteo sheets, though -- too dreary. I don't care how lulxurious they may be, they (to use an expression as elderly as myself) "bum me out".
Hey -- maybe the butterfly duvet WITH the Matteo sheets, what do you think?! ;^)

LOL, I think the Matteo sheets are gorgeous. I don't find them spartan or dreary at all, I think they're rich and subtle and cozy. But then, I tend to favor monochromatic, textured decor and gray in particular.
The butterflies are awesome, I dig.
I like the Missoni! It's just the sort of brightly-coloured sort-of-vintage-y design I enjoy.
KTG, no doubt you'd hate the similarly bright and colourful retro flowers in my bedding. Oh well. They make me smile, and more for me!

I like the butterflies for my 2-year-old daughter, if I was wealthier. Finding items for girls that aren't pink and/or branded is rather difficult sometimes.
The Missoni bedding is beautiful! My apartment bedroom is spacious but dull! I need to color it up and this bedding would be perfect.

We did our kids' rooms based on collections we already had. We built our son's room around our robot collection and added space stuff as well. Pottery Barn, Garnet Hill and Land of Nod have worked well for us in that regard. Our daughter's room is full of Chinese folk art with children and animals. We recently acquired the Lantern Festival from Kukunest for her room.
The notion of working with things we already had was driven economically but really has been great since their infancy. We simply didn't want to buy baby themed items and then have to redo the rooms.
I don't see any embroidery featured.
