A couple of years ago I received this evergreen question from a reader named Mona:

I have a room right next to a bathroom and I want to put in our home office there. We live in Tribeca and look is modern. Instead of putting up a white wall I would like to use a divider that is temporary and functional without going over $2000. I do not want to put up a book case. Do you have any ideas?

It was a great question that I did my best to answer then, and which gathered over 40 answers from readers. I now revisit Mona's question with a fresh eye and cull the best of our reader suggestions in an attempt to nail it. The dividers I've found are light, flexible, affordable and provide as much visual privacy as possible. These are dividers, not just screens. Got a good solution not mentioned? Email me at Maxwell@apartmenttherapy.com. Enjoy!

Many folks, including myself, recommend using "hospital track" and fabric curtains of any style to create a very efficient and modern solution. Hospital Track sources include:

Also, thick slabs of felt are a really good solution with the hospital track:

>> Molo Softwall - this is a favorite that also has a lot of problems. Please see this thread.
