Even the most die-hard design blog addict will admit there is something special about flipping through the pages of a real, tangible book on home design. Throughout the year we have posted on a host of books about the home — from inspirational (and "aspirational") glossy tomes to instructional and downright technical guidebooks.
I know most of you are fatigued by talk of "last-minute gift ideas" during "this holiday season" but I can't help add that many of these books do indeed make terrific and relatively low-risk presents. Not only do they help inspire and educate you but many of these books actually look pretty on the coffee table.

I would ad one more book that I discovered this year and love. It's called Shack Chic and examines the beauty, creativity and warmth of homes in some of the poorest areas of South Africa.
OOOh, thanks for adding that, Cynthia. I just looked that up, now it's on my 'to buy' list. I currently own apartment therapy's small space book and Jonathan Adler's book, both mentioned, and they are list worthy! I would recommend them to anyone!
Nice list of books. There are even a few that I haven't heard about.
I do think not including The Finest Rooms in America by Thomas Jayne was an oversight. Great pictures and choices of interiors.
