Sprout Side Table
given the new reduced luggage limits (e.g. 23kg to Europe), there should be plenty of nice used luggage around.
I'm not sure I possess the coolness to carry off toting vintage luggage, but I still have my grandmother's old brown Samsonite suitcase that got passed down to me and used it when I was a kid. It's probably been well past a decade since it saw the trunk of a car. That sucker has lasted far longer than any bags I've bought will.
I love the look of vintage suitcases and have several. But when I did a stack of them in my house, they felt so out of place in my decor. Too bad. Because they're so charming to look at it and carry such a nostalgic vibe with them.
@ Mark Tisdale: Same here, except I know *for sure* I don't possess that coolness. I have a VERY old piece passed down from my g-ma affixed with a metal plate labeled 'Mercury Luggage' which I keep trying to work into my decor. It's lived in every room in my house and STILL I can't manage to pull it off *sigh* I'm taking your comment as a challenge....next time I visit my sil for the weekend, I'm packin that baby! I still won't posses the coolness but the raised eyebrowns should be fun.
*eyebrows* (what is so difficult about an 'edit' button?!)
@ discerning: I rather like the eye-dia of "raised eyebrowns"!
For my quinceañera I received a "very grown up" set of tartan luggage- one suitcase, one smaller suitcase which was probably for "dainties", one shaped like a bowling bag, and a shoulder bag. At the time I felt VERY sophisticated! Ohhh! How I would love to have them again! Had passed them on to a younger cousin years later & I am sure they are now scattered to the winds.
Sorry, most of this is just artful photography although I will admit to liking #s 2, 5 & 10. This is one of those popular design things that we hate because after some thought, we realize it just looks plain silly and work far fewer times than we'd like to admit. Kind of like the small animal skulls on the wall and the dairy cowhide on the floor.
I bought a stack of vintage leather suitcases about 11 years ago from a department store I worked at that was selling items from their visual department. Over the years I've used them to store many things! These were one of the few things I moved 8 yrs ago when moving out of state! Love them!
