Best of Three. All interesting, all nice materials, all fairly minimal in design, but which to choose if you were doing the shopping? Which do you think is the best bet for design longevity and good value for the money out of the three shown above?

I can't remember the last time I used bar soap. And I know I am not the only one who, upon seeing these soap dishes, immediately thought of the gunk factor. In fact, isn't this the type of post that garners about 65 comments on hygiene?
this one must have slipped through the cracks, sam.
I loathe bar soap...and that wood dish would rot, woodn't it....

sam: "isn't this the type of post that garners about 65 comments on hygiene?"
- Only if the shape of the object can be easily sexualized. Then it will garner lots of comments on hygiene!
my only thought was that none of these drain and my soap would get all gooey instantaneously.
While the oak is nice looking, my guess is it is only a matter of time before it splits and gets fairly nasty inside from dampness. The recycled tire, while a nice nod to green living, makes me think "do I really want my hands smelling like wet rubber?" Give me the stone, it will last forever!
"Give me the stone, it will last forever!"
Depends on what kind of stone it is. I'm curious about the fact that they just say "stone" on the website. Some stones are more impervious [is "pervious" a word?] to water damage than others, but who's to say that's what you're getting? Like marble, it doesn't handle water well at all, and stains easily.
Like pretty much everyone has noted, though, this seems a silly argument, as I can't think of anyone who still uses bar soap.
I use bar soap (less packaging?) and a soap dish, and it doesn't get that gunky and really isn't that hard to clean.
I use Dove bar soap (it doesn't make my skin angry) and it gets gooey quickly. My soap dish is a repurposed pipet tip rack. Which will only make sense to fellow biogeeks.
i have bar soap and a soap dish in my bathroom. pretty little guest soaps that we make ourselves.
thanks sciencegeek for the pipette tip rack idea! I've been really trying to find a soap rack that won't get mucky and melt all my expensive bar soaps away. will need to find a way to make the tip rack pretty though :p
