It seems like a cruel joke: in a year when outdoor decor is really creative and inspiring, we're also experiencing the second coldest June on record in the Northwest. And not only is it cold and rainy, but it's dark. In three installments (and taking a cue from AT:Chicago), we go into the archives to indulge vicariously in the outdoor rooms and sunny salons our readers have shared with us in brighter times and places. Now up: patios.

One of our very favorite outdoor spaces has got to be Victoria's (of sfgirlbybay fame) little patio, above. It's a great example of what you can do with a small space that's not even on the ground level, much less a square inch of turf in sight.
More Patios:
• Alicia's Romantic Portland House
• Lisa's Artistic Hideaway
• House Call: Jill Pilotte of Small Stump
• Catherine and Robin's Earthy-Modern Airie
• Stef and Mike's Blend of East and West
Check back tomorrow, when we'll show you AT:SF's best sunrooms.

I'm glad you've edited in a different picture of Victoria's patio area. The one originally chosen seemed a bit cruel, for other reasons.
envious of outdoor decorating. anything nice i put out on my spacious main street ground level porch will get stolen or vandalized.
I don't mean to sound shopping-obsessed, but can anyone identify the round cushions in the top pic? I've been looking for that exact thing. Thanks!
I thought this small space was worthy of mention, but AT didn't think so...so I'll post it here:

The pictures may be small, but the ideas are good.
I don't know what you mean, Ter, but the photo that was there was provided by the person in that apartment, and is still part of their home tour here:
