It's a favorite online music source for adults, but how about Pandora in your child's nursery? Some of our favorite Pandora "stations" have come from friend recommendations, so if you've created the Best Playlist Ever for your nursery on Pandora, please share!
For those new to Pandora, the gist is this:
"Tell Pandora a favorite artist, genre or song, and it will start playing a whole string of music chosen based on that favorite. Pandora gives you the name of the every song it plays, along with the artist and album information. You can save your selections too, so you can listen to these 'radio stations' based on your favorites whenever you use Pandora without reloading the info."
And, the site is free to use.
Visit Pandora.com.

I prefer Jango to Pandora. I'm actually addicted to it!
The last time I used Pandora, you weren't able to stream it from i tunes or any other media players - making it problematic to play it through your stereo system. Has this changed? Otherwise, you'd need to leave a laptop in the nursery.
we just leave an ipod in the nursery instead of a laptop. not sure on the functionality of other systems.
we go with a lot of jack johnson here. even his "louder" songs are mellow enough to work for us.
We put on Elizabeth Mitchell.
I had never heard of Pandora... what a great little free app. I've already started my little nursery playlist (I'll be leaving my laptop in there, anyway.) I really like Dave Matthews Band and Norah Jones, but I would love any other suggestions for 'baby friendly' music. I'm debating whether Steve Miller Band and Led Zeppelin would be too heavy.
Thanks for introducing me to this; should save us lots of time downloading...
Here are a few of my favorites from playlists I've created for my son:
Sufjan Stevens (early stuff)
Iron and Wine - (Naked as We Came is a good one)
David Gray (anything from White Ladder)
Alison Krauss
James Taylor (early 70's stuff)
Sigor Ros
Feist
Joanna Newsom - Sprout and the Bean
Norah Jones
Cocteau Twins
Madeleine Peyroux
Zero 7
Ziggy Marley's most recent cd "Family Time" !!!!!
Features songs with artists: Jack Johnson, Paul Simon, Elizabeth Mitchell, Laurie Berkner, and Willie Nelson
Plus, if you download it from itunes, you also get the free music video of the "Family Time" song.
We set Pandora to "Reggae" or just "Bob Marley" and also "Mariachi" for our boys (7 and 3 1/2)

Do yourself a huge favor if you've never listened to this enchanting band. Rabbit Songs is a great cd that you will listen to in the nursery, at dinner, late at night, on Sunday afternoons...an absolute must!
...and on Pandora it will link you to other beautiful nursery appropriate artists.
The only one I really like for kids from Pandora is their Children's Folk Songs station, under genres -> family. It's great in the morning and NOT annoying! Try it out.
Oh, and we have a little clock/radio/ipod/iphone charger from iHome and as long as you have an iPhone or iTouch (w/ internet at home), you can play it from their app.
I just realized this article is for the "nursery". Um, I never played music in the nursery (do a lot of people really do this?). But I do play it in the main part of the home.
Farleece's list is what my regular Pandora station plays with some Weepies thrown in.
I play a lot of Ella Jenkins, Elizabeth Mitchell, Woodie Guthrie and "Iz" (the Over the Rainbow singer -- have no idea how to spell his last name) in my almost-2-y-o's room, on an iPod (though Pandora is an awesome idea!). He really loves Ella's songs (especially Mary Mack), which are very rhythmic.
Love pandora! this is a great post, i'm obsessed with always finding new stations to listen to. farleece and i are on the same page, almost everyone you've listed i have as my playlists. i would add kings of convenience, super mellow and beautiful music and also a little mumford & sons for the days that you and your tot want to dance, my 2 year old is obsessed with them.
oh and don't forget sufjan stevens holiday for this time of year! it's my favorite station of all time!
I created a Dan Zanes station on Pandora and we love it. They throw in a lot of They Might Be Giants, offbeat covers (like Reel Big Fish's ska version of "Take On Me," as well as more down-tempo stuff like Elizabeth Mitchell and Jack Johnson. Dan Zanes' last album featured Spanish songs, though, so be prepared for a lot of Tejano and Cuban songs as well. We like to dance to those.
Ahh, I heart Pandora :) When my toddler is playing by herself (or jumping on our bed) and wants some music I put on the Toddler Radio station and it's all kids songs (like "Hokie-Pokie" - or however you spell it), random adult/kid songs (like "somewhere over the rainbow"), and some Disney thrown in. She loves it!
We're big fans of Avett Bros./Johnny Cash, Magnetic Fields/Xavier Rudd, Bach, Pomplamoose, Led Zepplin, Four Tet, and nerdcore rap stations at our house. We switch between them based on mood and whim. Kidlet definitely gets a variety pack of music!
my kid loves james taylor, colby caillat, and ambulance ltd. plus some more questionables like gaga and miley. we love pandora around here and my fave station is the hubby created "soul sistah." he just get's me.
I know this sounds kinda different, but when my soon-to-be 2 year old daughter fell in love with andrea bocelli on elmo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BDVvB7Xx1w), I started a Pandora playlist of Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli - it's been fabulous for difficult bedtimes..!!
My girls love the Beach Boys.
"Lullaby Radio" is incredible. We love "stations" Justin Roberts, Dan Zanes, Feist, Melody Gardot, Yael Naim, and Lilly Allen. Jason Mraz and Coldplay include some good, mellow pop. For dancing we like Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake.
i played pandora in the past. but once they told me that i reached my 40 hour limit and i would have to pay, we started listening to slacker. my kids love jazz (hard bop), and classical music is played durring homework time. we also listen to the "movie scores" station.
We use an iPod for our son that we rotate from the nursery to different spots around the house; this was his very first playlist:

When he was a newborn we listened to a lot of 'The Little Series: Dream a Little'. We also love Natalie Merchant's 'Leave Your Sleep'.
stereomood.com is also a great web site to look at.
