Unplggd reader Sergio has asked us about portable iPhone speakers, and which we would recommend. He's looking for something that he can carry around in a backpack, without being too big or bulky, and that has good sound. Read on to find out more!
Our immediate thoughts were about the Eton Soulra portable boombox system. While it can be powered by solar power, the most interesting thing is that it's a nice, sleek package that's also splash-proof in case that you leave it near the water. Our only concern was about the size of the device. Luckily, it's only about a foot long, by 6 inches wide and only 3 inches deep, so you'll have no problems lugging it around.
It's also got a bass boost, to give you that extra jolt of sound when you need it. It's compatible with iPhones and iPod Touches. It can be powered by batteries, by a AC adapter (4 hours to recharge), or solar power (10 hours to recharge). It would work well at the pool or the park. The only problem that we can see is the price: it costs $200.
The Logitech Portable Speaker S125i iPod Speaker Dock is our other pick, that's significantly cheaper. It costs $70 (but we've found it for $45 on Amazon) and it will do the job, without the fancy solar-power charging capabilities. It has good sound and will work for a number of hours before it needs more batteries or a plug. You can read our full review and test here.
