A living classic. The Luxo L-1 Lamp was designed in 1937 by Jac Jacobsen for Luxo. And it’s still completely modern and relevant. Every architectural firm we’ve ever worked for has used them at the drafting boards. And we’ve even spec’d them for clients before.
The lamp has lots of options for mounting: it can have a desktop base, a clamp for drafting desks, a wall-mount bracket. It can be maneuvered dependably on its spring-balanced arm. It comes in four classic finishes: gray, white, black, and chrome. It’s no wonder over 25 million Luxos have been sold to date.

best type of lamp i've ever owned-- lasts forever, always looks cool in any kind of set up, and can be used for task light (in downward position) or ambient light (if tilted up to the ceiling). perfect gift for someone off to college or in a 1st apartment or a pair as a wedding present. long live luxo!

Back when, every design studio, publishing house art dept., type house you name it, used this wonderful lamp. One was able to move it about the drafting board with ease and that strong clamp was reliable. Luxo forever.
I still use the Luxo I bought when I was in FIT in 1976. It has has been on my drawing table through my careers as a textile and product designer and writer. When the room is dark, the lamp throws a very soothing and optimistic light on the task at hand.
