We've been thinking of getting one to replace our down comforter, as it is old and has started leaving feathers all over the apartment. The layered silk fibers of a silk comforter kind of adhere together and don't leak or bunch up. For cleaning, silk comforters can be hand-washed and tumble dried.

Old methods including boiling the silk worms while they are still alive to remove the silk. While silk may be more eco-friendly, we need to understand that it might not be "animal" friendly.
How is it that the silk quilt is more eco-friendly than a down quilt? How do they collect down to put into a quilt?
