Recently we were at the Dwell HQ and somehow managed to stumbled upon their jaw-dropping roof terrace (show above...and after the jump!). We love the modular floor tiles and the brushed metal chairs. Match that with the fantastic wood furnishings and we're in roof terrace heaven!

It got us thinking, with this amazing weather, what are the best (public) roof terraces in the Bay Area? We're inclined to say Crocker Gallery or Yerba Buena, but we'd love to know what you think.

The Moroccan restaurant a few doors down from Foreign Cinema has a great roof deck with a great view. They serve drinks up there in the evenings, and it's quite nice.
It's not exactly a deck, but the upper level of the Embarcadero is a nice place for lunch when the weather's warm.
I also like SFGail's recommendation for Medjool in the Mission, but I don't know of many other restaurants or bars or public places with elevated outdoor spaces...
The Lookout in the Castro's been hopping this weekend.
I'd recommend Mint's roof deck. Small but a decent view.
SPUR's Young Urbanists and the Next American City quarterly mag just had a program last week on privately-owned public spaces that are littered around the FiDi and SOMA. REBAR was also part of the program, and their investigation last year yielded this :http://www.rebargroup.org/projects/commonspace/index2.html (a map of the POPOS). Enjoy.
San Francisco lacks good roof decks, and I regularly bemoan this predicament. Medjool has a nice deck but it's so "scene-y" and too packed, and other sporadic roof decks are crowded or expensive or just not nice. Where are the low-key roof decks in this town?
The Sf Chronicle recently did a piece on open spaces in downtown, and a few of these are on rooftops. Here's the map they provided: http://www.sfgate.com/maps/cityspaces
