The humble rocking chair may be associated with knitting grandmothers and nursing mamas but they have a far wider appeal. After all, why be stationary when you could rock on? Far from fussy and old fashioned, there are a lot of modern rockers out there — these are 9 of our current favorites.

• Finn Rocker from Anthroplogie $1698

You forgot my all time fave- the Joya Rocker by Monte!
I would love to own any one of these!
I love that Thrive Kennedy chair! It takes the lines of one of my favorite vintage chairs (a Selig Z chair) and pairs it with a rocking base. I NEED that for the nursery!
@Redlinevintage, Really? I like the look but thought it wouldn't be wise to have in a house with kids because those arm points look like they'd be eye level for a toddler.
I haven't seen one in person though so maybe they just look like a hazard. LOL
Love, love the Jason Lewis rocker. Actually love them all with the exception of the wire one. :)
On John Tesh's radio show, he talked about how sitting in a rocking chair (and rocking) can significantly reduce feelings of anxiety. Now that's some great justification for splurging on a rocking chair ;)
I picked up an inexpensive old MCM type rocker on craigslist. The owners were selling it because 'it just wasn't a modern rocker'. I lol'd.
I thought I was in love with the Eames rocker, until I sat in it and felt like I would fall out. My husband also wanted head support, so it's pretty, but not practical. Would have loved to purchase the Monte Lucca instead.
Love, love, love the Monte Luca! It was my big luxury purchase but we use it every day, now I think of it a necessity.
I love these! One of my biggest considerations when choosing a rocker was having comfortable armrests. I got the Babyletto Madison swivel glider -- only $314!
