As familiar with Chicago resources as I am, I have thankfully gotten so much more from AT:Chicago's past threads, reader reviews, and our general archives regarding my current in-process move. I've found movers (took readers' suggestions and went with Joey's Movers), gotten input about renting out a condo, and received great encouragement for renovations and putting together an IKEA kitchen. The comments and community activity has been invaluable to me...
Over this past weekend, my husband and I endured a partial move - all of our large pieces of furniture and my entire home office. Thanks to an AT thread we found affordable, punctual, careful and gracious movers: Joey's Movers.
This was our FIRST TIME EVER hiring a moving company - holy smokes, that was an exciting decision. Even so, we have been so accustomed to packing, carrying and hauling over the years that we couldn't help but roll up our sleeves and carry boxes down the flight of stairs and to the moving van. We realized that although help is amazing and necessary, we also love the energy/process of packing up, cleaning up, and moving out.
The rest of the month we'll slowly take over the remaining boxes, clothes, and kitchen stuff to our new place, but it seems the hardest part is over: the beginning and decision-making part.
So as someone who brings a lot of ideas and resources to this site daily, I wanted to personally thank our community for giving all of us editors just as many ideas and firsthand info to live by. We wouldn't be thriving without you.
Look for a lot more to come as we make this huge transition into our new home.
