As the Apartment Therapy Marketplace expands day by day, it seems like the list of sweet stops have become an increasingly complex, never-ending list. The problem becomes even more apparent when trying to search around your local area for things to do. Seeing as Spring is peeking around corner, we'd like to ask you, readers - what are some of the best sites to find relevant info on local flavor, events, and great eats?
I, for one, have made Yelp one of my go-to travelling tools for exploration and finding sweet spots to eat and shop. One of my favorite features are the Yelp Lists that folks put together to highlight their favorite local spots. I've found plenty of hidden gems this way and I highly recommend it if you're looking for personal recommendations rather than heavily advertised events and shops.
Another tool I've found to be plenty helpful are the Lonely Planet applications available on mobile. They were offered free a while back (when the December snow storm hit and everyone was stranded at airports), but are still worth the couple of bucks since they offer a thorough overview of the major hot spots in the city. I tend to use it to find famous good eats, so it's great if you're a hungry explorer like me.
What I do wish for is a service that would provide more feedback the more I contribute to creating and curating my personal lists. Or simply a checklist that I could mark off and have it provide me with a list of places to go. Surely there must be something out there for individuals looking to explore their local area without having to whip out the Yellow Pages every time!
