It's time to get planting everyone!

Looking for window planters locally can be frustrating as most stores don't carry a wide range of sizes. Looking for boxes that aren't made of ugly plastic is even harder. I found this site above and was excited because it killed three birds with one stone. Their boxes come in gazillion sizes, they're made of awesome wood (choice of 5 woods), and they're part of a larger eco initiative. What's not to like? More choices below....

I found these really nice teak window boxes a year ago for my own home. They come in many sizes, are well made of sustainable teak, and have a nice story behind them. The company is called Diamond Teak and they are a couple, Kevin and Christine Yardley, working out of Costa Rica and Pennsylvania, but Amazon seems the best way to buy from them (shipping is free if you have Prime).

Modern and lightweight at Pure Modern, the GEO comes in three sizes and 80 colors: "The geometric Modern Window Box is made from tough, versatile fiberglass - lightweight, maintenance free and completely frost proof and non-corrosive."

Sourced at Target, the Nantucket is a classic traditional design in painted wood. Only one size or color here: "It has a neat panel design for a sophisticated look. This window box is made of durable hardwood that resists moisture. It has a semi-gloss finish to enhance its overall style."

Also at Target, the Kingston is on sale and comes in two sizes, offering a totally different type of window box approach: "The sophisticated planter is perfect for your favorite plant or flower to grow in and its sunny colors will beautifully accent the bold colors from the plants. It is rust, weather, crack, decay and UV resistant, so you can keep it outside all year long. Includes mounting brackets and a coconut fiber liner."

Keeping window boxes moist during hot, dry summer days is the biggest challenge, so I thought I'd put this one in. The Devon, sourced from Grandin Road, is double walled and comes with a water storage design that allows plants not to be overwatered and also to trickle water into plants over time. They are, however, short on details! "Carefully crafted from double-walled polyethylene Planter looks like wood but doesn't chip, crack, or peel."

I had to add a link to WindowBox.com where you can find everything from classic to cheesy - but I love this idea: you mount the cage and can put anything inside of it from pots to a trough: "Our Contemporary Window Box Cage will add a modern, streamlined feel to your property and will withstand the test of time and harsh weather. Constructed out of sturdy wrought iron and finished with rust-resistant powder-coated black paint, our Contemporary Window Box Cage looks beautiful when lined with 8" pots, our "Estate Collection" PVC or any of our galvanized metal liners."

Added this in as a really nice alternative idea from Jsmetal in the comments: Wooly Pockets started out with wooly pockets which don't do as well out of doors. This new design is visually stunning and totally modular, allowing you to mount boxes of flowers outside your home in as big or small an amount as possible. Technically they're not "window boxes" I suppose, but they come very close. "The new modular design features a hard vented shell, a sturdy shape and is equipped with a self-watering tank—all designed to make planting easier!"
