021709project-02.jpgThe stars aligned this past Saturday (or rather the rain stopped) long enough for us to get started on our Do It Now Project. Because we haven't had the opportunity to work on our project until now, we've had a slight change in plans for our project...

Initially we wanted to strip and stain our little side table but have since taken a different path. Another option had always been to paint our green table a high gloss white (which won out in the end). Our shopping trip to Home Depot was fast and easy, picking up two spray cans of Painter's Touch Primer and two spray cans of Rustoleum Lacquer. We also purchased a bag of latex gloves (to protect our new manicure) and some fine grain sandpaper.

The legs screwed off for easy spray painting.

The table after sanding.

We removed the colored plastic strip between the drawers to make sure we achieved superior spray paint coverage. Instead of putting the plastic strip back in place once we're done, we've decided to get a custom mirror strip cut for the area between the drawers. Unfortunately, Home Depot does not do custom mirror strips, so we're off to our local glass and mirror shops this week.

After one coat of primer.

After two coats of primer.

The Painter's Touch Primer allows for sanding in between coats.

We know what you're thinking--we're ruining our front lawn by using the dirt as a holding zone to spray paint the table's legs. What you don't know is that our front lawn is infested with moles (which our landlord has refused to remedy). The lawn is no more than a huge pile of lightly packed soil with weeds growing on top. Once the legs dried, we tilled the soil to cover-up any traces of spray paint.

Next up is more sanding followed by our Rustoleum Lacquer with a custom cut mirror attached between the drawers. We also want to invest in some new hardware and will be stopping by Anthroplogie this week. Because this table's background will be the black wall of a bedroom, we're thinking of painting a decorative pattern of black stripes on top (or should we leave the top white?). What are your thoughts or ideas?
