Name: Betty
Location: Chelsea, Manhattan, New York
Size: 1400 square feet, 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath
Years Lived In: 4
Betty bought a commercial office space in a large mixed-use — but office oriented — building and turned it into both an interior design office for herself and her assistant and a comfortable home for herself and her 11 year old daughter.
Betty works and lives in the same place and yet, she has made a very successful division between work and play. Her two small offices open off the main living space and have large sliding opaque doors that can be shut at night to become visually interesting elements in and of themselves.
As an interior designer, Betty can sit at her kitchen counter, which doubles as a conference table, and use her own home as a showcase for her work. Other blurred lines between work and home life include the coffee table, which is also a flat file for drawings.
After gutting the original space, Betty knew she would have limited space to carve into two bedrooms, bathrooms, a den and a laundry room. Knowing that she and her daughter would share a bathroom and that it would be a heavily trafficked room in her home, Betty opted to apportion more space for the bathroom and less for her own bedroom.
Betty has created intimate spaces within an open plan using a mix of materials and a muted color palette. The result is very warm and cozy while practical and well thought through.

Nomade Express Slee...
Gorgeous!
ever so pretty
Where is the toilet from? While I love her style, I feel like this apartment has very few windows.
where did you get that rad coffee table from?
Nice. I particularly like how she squeezed in a separate bathtub AND shower in the bathroom.
Lovely to see the work of pros!
@tinybubbles it's just a industrial flat file on casters. For a live/work space it doesn't have much room to "work"
Beautiful place btw! Very nicely designed. I really like the ladder towel rack.
Just noticed that (stainless steel?) kitchen splashback. I've been considering stainless steel, but was worried it would look too 'kitcheny' as our kitchen and living area are also open plan. It looks great here.
this is my new favorite
awesome Betty! hmm... wonder a what a pro would do with my space.
I love this! Where is your daughter's bed from? Did you have the upholstered headboard and backing custom made?
Great place. You can see the work of a pro at a glance...
Wow ! A LAUNDRY room in NYC?!! It would be nice if they showed photos of the laundry room.
I love the colors in this home. Job well done.
Thanks for sharing your home with us, it is quite lovely. An artful solution for a mixed-use space, which is something I am currently dealing with.
Well done
beautiful but bad light. the pics should have been taken with natural light during the day...not at night.
who is the artist of the large pink abstract painting?
I love the lighting! It adds warmth to the organic feeling of the place. This is a nice place to just relax and enjoy.
divine. I love how much wood is used in this space - and how it warms every room.
Very well designed pad that seems to work for a mother/daughter couple!
I am head over heels in love with this place! The use of wood is optimal and gorgeous. Both bathrooms have a serene yet modern look... Natural choices in colouring... Simply gorgeous!!
I just love your place! It's so beautiful & warm. I also work at home but just a couple of days a week; however, I am constantly trying to figure out how to keep my work & personal life separate even though they occupy the same space at times. You seem to have this mastered. The flat file as a coffee table is so smart - I might be stealing that idea.
Aah...gorgeous. Love that living coffee table (and everything else, of course)!
No pictures of the offices or the laundry room?
Normally I hate spaces with all neutrals, but this is stunning! It looks so warm and has so many textures.
I'm having serious bathroom envy right now.
nice space! quick question, how did you do the sliding doors/panels? did you purchase the panels or are they custom?
I love the colors here, but also the textures. This is really texture done right. Your eyes don't get "stuck" on anything, even though if you look closely, there really are a lot of things in each room (for the size.) It just all flows and feels soothing and airy and nice.
Must be a lovely place to live!!
Beautiful apartment! Curious where the kitchen stools came from?
kitchen stools, yes!!! love them!!!
lovely, lovely home!
I love the idea of a deep bath!
NICE!!!!
Beautiful...I LOVE the wood plank wall!!
Beautiful home. Very cozy and warm feel to it...
I love this and I've only seen half of it. When I get home I'll be able to look at the rest but I already know that this is this is the place for me <3
white clean towels and a surplus of wood in an industrial home. sign me up!
What a great place to call home!
Colors in the bathroom are amazing!
Excellent!!!
love your bathroom!!!
