Window films are a great way to solve the natural light vs. privacy dilemma present in many bathrooms (our only bathroom window is smack in the middle of the shower stall). Here are a few of our favorite options that are a step above the usual frosty white or faux stained glass.
1. Trove offers printed window film versions of their gorgeous wallpaper designs.
2. "Pixel" by Emma Jeffs is available at 2Jane along with several other window film designs.
3. "Linjer" by Maria Liv mimics the shadows of swaying grass. It's available from Scandinavian Design Center which has a lovely selection of other decorative films as well.
4. "Random White Stripes" from Window Film and More is graphic and contemporary.
5. Rice paper film is simple and classic, available in a variety of shades and textures from Window Film and More.

the Trove is beyond beautiful (and i am scared of bugs and such, but i love)
Ugh, that is so sad! It reminds me of bugs smashed and dying against a windshield.
elvedon: wow, I didn't even think of that until you mentioned it...the butterflies look like they're still fluttering in mid-flight to me. But it's enough of a reminder for me to think twice before going for it.
After spending a lot of time looking for a window film with the right amount of privacy yet some translucence, I've usedJapanese paper, lightly brushed with beaten eggwhite, on my windows.
It's inexpensive, and easy to change the patterns.
Butterflies are often used as a symbol of infant loss. If you are unfortunately familiar with that connotation, and depending how you feel about it, the Trove film could be quite a beautiful & powerful element in a home.
In Japan the butterfly is a symbol of marital bliss. As a newly wed who just moved into my first owned home, I'm going to go with that as the meaning I'd apply if I ever got the Trove one :)
i love the trove butterflies. anybody know where to buy it (i'm not in nyc) and how much it costs? the website isn't so helpful. am afraid that it's one of those cases where if you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it :)
There is an "Inquiry" form on their website that should yield who reps them elsewhere.
yeah, that Trove link is pretty much useless.
trove to is to the trade only and it quite expensive.
Does anyone know h/t achieve the appearance of film on the cheap? I'm considering cover a pair of glass doors whose seals are broken (the inbetween space is yucky) but at a minimum $7. per 24" I'm not thrilled. Considering tinting a can of polycrylic and doing my own frost job.
I have five glass windows 5 feet by 9 feet. Does anyone know where I can find plastic sheets that will protect from the heat and sun, not just be decorative?
We just used a textured / patterned window film in our new place and love it.
It was a top priority for me, since one of the living room windows (in our otherwise perfect new apartment) faces the parking garage of the building next door. I love the shutter windows and didn't want to keep them covered with curtains 24/7 but didn't want to look at an ugly garage either, so window film it was.
The majority of window films out there are either hideous or boring, so thanks to AT and whoever linked to the Solyx brand! It was about $15 per foot x 48" wide, our window needed 6 feet.
Here is a picture of it once installed... our place is a 1920's Spanish Moorish style bungalow so it actually goes pretty well, or at least I like it :)

PS: first-time poster / longtime lurker here...hi all!
Trove will sell to you directly. I love their window films; they're just a bit too opaque for my windows. However, here's the response I received from them about pricing:
"Thank you for your interest in Trove. You can purchase the films directly from Trove.
Any of our wallpaper patterns can be applied to the two different textures of window film we offer (Frost and Rice Paper).
We provide estimates based on dimensions. There is a 10 square foot minimum order for window film.
The films run $13 per square foot and are sold 24” or 48” wide."
Just email them if you want to know anything further.
thanks for the trove info, labelle!
