Much as I love Bono and his philanthropic band of (RED)-clad merry men, the idea of buying most (RED) products as a way to give money to Africa just never worked for me. I would rather buy a t-shirt I actually like and write a check to Mercy Corps. But while flipping through UK's Elle Decoration this month, I discovered Bib&Sola's glass carafe and tumblers. The products boldly accomplish what even the writer of "Mysterious Ways" could not: they combine charitable purchase power with gorgeous design. Aesthetically, the pieces in the Marta Collection, which are hand-blown in Venice by local artisans, are designed to have an animated, liquid quality that mirrors their function. Used as water receptacles, the products honor the history and strength of women water-bearers. Philanthropically, a percentage of all proceeds go to THE ONE Foundation, which funds water system development in Malawi. If "the goal is elevation" both Bono and René Lalique would surely approve.
