I'm making some updates to my son's room including changing the current artwork. I have approximately one billion prints favorited on Etsy, but most of them are small, 8" x 10"ish. I think it's time to go big. No futzing with different layouts for a grouping, no buying multiple frames and prints and, a bonus as a renter, only putting one nail in the wall. As I think about exactly what I want to hang on the wall, I turn to reader rooms with big art for inspiration.
I found a lot - big framed prints and photographs, big canvases, big maps and even large fabric hangings. No matter the medium, the result is that each one makes a big statement and proves that sometimes less is more.
Now the matter of where to find large, affordable artwork. I'll let you know what good sources I find once I've done my research. A good place to start is this Good Question about oversized art. Readers had many helpful suggestions including printing your own photographs at Kinkos or other offices stores, asking Etsians whose work you like if they will do a custom size for you and buying original art from students.

Shaw's Original Fir...
what a great post! I'm always looking for big, bright, statement art for my daughters room. Who says you can only do cutsey letters and animal illustrations? Thanks for the tips here.
I love #9 and #16. The Map is amazing, and in #16 the colours and the softness of the fabric hanging on the wall are great.
We got a couple of yards of this fabric from IKEA (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20208612/) and stretched it like a huge canvas. My daughter (age 1.5) loves it and has named a number of the faces after friends and family members!
I'm totally lucky to have an artist for a husband, but he did a painting/collage on an old door and we put it in our boys' room. (Currently leaning, will hang soon with a french cleat.) I love the big scale!

As a fellow Etsian Custom sizes are usually no problem! We love to customize!....however consider the type of art when enlarging... Maps, fabric, wrapping paper, Wall paper and the like make great large scaled frame-able art... You can also get pre stretched/primed canvas to create your own large painting... or box frame a christening gown/favorite outfit which can create a wonderful memento as well!
