Bio Tray Module for Green Roofs

The new California Academy of Sciences is an incredibly innovative green building. The green roof was created by a leading landscape consulting firm, which developed a biodegradable module system intended to get plants established...

Rana Creek's Bio Tray system is effectively similar to Green Roof Blocks and other modular solutions. During the construction process, an off-site nursery starts and raises plants in modular blocks. Once the plants are established, they are transported to the building and installed.

But, where the other systems use plastic or metal for the blocks, the Bio Tray system uses coconut fiber. Eventually it breaks down and contributes to the soil for the green roof, but it holds together long enough for the plants to grow and the roof to be installed.

If you are planning a green roof for your home, keeping as much plastic out of the system as possible makes sense to us.
