I thought I scored when I found whole-wheat sourdough. But I didn't know what a find it was until I arrived home and pulled the loaf out of its biodegradable bag.
Shopping at New York's Union Square Greenmarket, I stopped by the booth of Bread Alone. After bringing home an organic loaf, I took it home to pop in the toaster for mozzarella, tomato, and basil sandwiches. I was totally surprised that the plastic window, which I had peaked through to choose my bread, is biodegradable!
It's always frustrating when I shop at Greenmarket and then end up going home with a bunch of plastic bags. I bring my own canvas tote and try and tell vendors that I don't need plastic bags with my vegetables, but despite my protests, I inevitably wind up with a few. So it's great that Bread Alone is using these. I'm definitely going to add their booth to my Greenmarket circuit.
