We love camping. We love just about everything about camping &mdash except for how long it takes to prepare food sometimes. The actual cooking doesn't take long, it's the prep work. It takes forever to get a fire going and quite a long time to get coals hot enough to use. We've always wanted something that could help speed up the process (we thought we were alone in our city slicker-ness, but apparently not!)
We know that taking it slow and easy is all a part of camping. Unwinding far from city life and the hustle and bustle &mdash does it make me a bad person because I want my water to boil in under 10 minutes? We don't think so, which is why the BioLite
seems like a pretty sweet find.
The BioLite Camping Stove uses a thermoelectric generator to get things going and the fan separates wood gas from the other pieces in the fire, blending it with air so it gets hot very quickly. The Camping Stove boils 1 liter of water in 4 minutes, kindles in 2 minutes, burns twigs, sticks, underbrush, pine cones, pellets, rice husks, and the really great part for those tight on space in the ol' mini van: it folds for easy packing.
The best part for someone like me who can't spend five minutes without my phone: BioLite sucks up the power from the fire and stores it in the generator. To use the power, connect a device via USB and power up!
The BioLite isn't available in stores yet, but they're aiming for Spring 2010!
