Recently I have been seeing a lot of the birch inspired wallpaper installed in various places around the home. It is very fun and playful and works well in a modern home. It is a great way to give the feeling of bringing the outdoors in.
I first fell in love with the wallpaper when I saw it in Warren & Mimi's home. Since then, I have seen a few great examples of how it also works in the living room, dining room, and even bathroom.

You should probably mention within the article that it's Cole & Son Woods wallpaper... and it's not a recent phenomenon.

I once ran into a temporary wallpaper inspired by this cole and son one online, but didn't bookmark it and would love to have it in my rental apartment. Anyone know of a website that carries temporary birch wallpaper?
I just ordered this for my 3 years old son's room, can't wait to see it up!
I've always loved this wallpaper, until now. I think it just reached saturation point for me. It feels like overkill when it's used in a large setting but I still like it somewhat in small doses, such as the bathroom under the stairs, in earlier posts that have gotten loads of exposure. I heard somewhere people with ADHD have a hard time with small repetitive patterns. *self-recognition light just came on*
this wall paper is in the house on the Gordie shore!
It looks OK in picture four but like someone else said, saturation point!
Personally I think it looks way past hideous with a that chandelier.
I have always loved this paper BUT ONLY used in moderation. one small wall is plenty.
I like the look of the wallpaper but that pattern is totally out of my budget so I drew my own trees on the walls with a sharpie. I'm not done yet but here's a glimpse: http://craftylittlegnome.blogspot.com/2011/05/work-in-progress-magic-marker-forest.html
Recently? The Cole and Sons wallpaper has been out for years now and is practically as overused as the Keep Calm and Carry On poster.
Each time this wall paper appears in a post I love it all over again and am happy to be reminded.
I agree with most of the above-- hardly recent, overexposed, time to move on... a variation is due? Different trees? Same pattern in a more vivid color?
beearthur, are you thinking of this one by blik?

if not, i'd love to know what you come up with.
You know, I have been considering this for my home, but was concerned that it has been over done. However, the more I have looked at it, the more I've decided it's not overdone, it's moved past that and is now a classic. In my opinion, it's never going to be out of style.
I'm kind of "in charge" of the re-design of the top floor of our (public) library. Robert Frost used to live in our town, back when he wrote some of his famous poems, so we are using "Birches" (the poem) as loose inspiration for the renovation. (Colors, patterns...) We are having a designer/mural artist paint some simplified birch trees in a couple of spots on the walls. (Lisa Teague, featured in the June issue of Coutry Living Magazine.) We considered the wallpaper briefly, but decided it's too busy for our environment.
Saleva-
That's not the one I saw, but pretty awesome still, I love the colors.
The one I found was cool because you could pick the background color AND the birch color to customize it to your own needs.
I have officialyy given up on finding that one. Do you ever just surf and surf until you have no idea how you got to a website? That's probably what happened to me.
I'm happy to have the link you sent me though, these wall tiles are awesome
Put a birch on it!
I saw on some blog, I think Craftzine, a couple that drew this design on by hand with a Sharpie. Looked even better than the wallpaper.
Whoop, just saw your comment Adrienne, you weren't the person I was talking about who drew it on with a Sharpie. They're here: http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2011/05/diy_forest_wallpaper.html
Unless that is you.
And, yeah, I liked this wallpaper but do find it a little put-a-bird-on-keep-calm-carry-on-paint-everything-chevron-ish for my. Too much, too much.
That's it, libe person SherryBinNH. Too busy when it covers a large area.
I did a mural where I sketched on parts in sharpie which was fine until I painted over it and the sharpie kept bleeding through the primer and the paint no matter how many coats. I think it was as many as eight and you can still see it if the light is right and you're looking for it.
I would not recommend it.
I prefer to keep the "outdoors look" outdoors. That's what windows are for and I have an incredible view outside. But then again, I suppose if you lived in the city, it would be quite different.
