Bisecting A Hoosier Cabinet to Make Media Stand AND Console Table

AT Boston readers Molly and Adam were searching high and low for an attractive media stand, when they stumbled across this vintage hoosier cabinet and brilliantly turned one piece of furniture into two: a media stand and a console table! See the media stand below the jump as well as the source for where they found this affordable piece...

They used the bottom portion of the hoosier cabinet for the media stand, drilling some holes in the back for cords. Molly and Adam report that they get tons of compliments on the two pieces and that they love living with "a much funkier alternative than a lot of the products we saw at stores in the Boston area."

Why is it called a "hoosier" cabinet? anything to do with Indiana?

The Hoosier Mfg. Co., New Castle, Indiana. But just as not all facial tissue is made by Kleenex, not all Hoosier cabinets were made by the HMCo.

Great idea. Most Hoosiers are made with two separate pieces to begin with, right? So bisection is easy peasy! And that salvage shop has amazing prices. Too bad they're on the wrong coast for me...

Yeah, many of them are highly sought after too - The best part about this bisecting - - nothing is damaged that can't be reassembled and restored.

I think they might need a stronger rack holding up their CD player on the top there.

How about the colored frames?? Very vibrant! Love it!

The second cabinet can't be the same as the first or am I missing something?

I think both pictures were one piece at one time. They aren't showing a before picture. Just the after picture.

Love this! I always like too see people think outside of the box and search for the unusual before plunkiing down hundreds for store manufactured stuff that everyone else has.
