Los Angeles was buzzing with design energy this weekend with Dwell on Design playing centerpiece Friday through Sunday. Just a few miles over, Quench Collective and Flagship co-hosted, AUS/USA/LAX 2013, an event highlighting the leading edge of Australian products and design afterhours. Quietly sitting in the corner, this handblown sealed glass speaker seated upon a Portuguese cork base by designer Björn Rust caught the attention of the eyes before impressing the ears...
The hand-blowing process forming the GS-1 speaker with Australian sands pigmented with oxides from Germany and New Zealand.
Another one of Rust's designs, the Pour-Over for Quench, a one-cup coffee making accessory was also constructed with glass and cork like the GS-1 speaker.
