When we think of black couches, most of us immediately envision big clunky pieces best suited for man caves. But we spotted this piece at Skona Hem and its curvy shape, intricate details and nail head trim are anything but lubberly.

We looked around for a similar piece and found this vinyl one at MetroSofa. It could provide a strong contrast in a modern space or be a nice complement in a more traditional room. Price is available on request.

I found this one next to a dumpster and painted the frame black.

I have black, soft fabric to upholster it with. I painted the frame matte black, but now I'm thinking it looks too much like charcoal - as if it burned. Should I glossy it up? Or leave it matte?

That sofa wants to be glossy & glamourous - not matte and dull...
...and consider opting for some nailhead trim when you get it upholstered as well to add some sparkle.
hmm...I agree with the glossy part. I kind of like the no nailhead look of the black MetroSofa. Thanks!

oh I looked closer and it does have nailheads, they're just black.
I think I like the matte look, or maybe a satin finish? it will look like your own version of the Smoke Chair.
I am a big MCM junky....but i am loving this black french sofa...maybe enough to buy...
