Often times in a small space, we try to go with light or white everything in order to make things feel more spacious. But white or light colors can make even a compact piece loom large. I learned this from experience when I purchased an all-white dining table for my small apartment. It was just the right slim dimension I was seeking, but all of that white was just too much for my little place:
Black and dark-colored furniture, on the other hand, has the ability of receding and just might take up less visual space than a lighter counterpart. Here are a few black or dark-colored pieces that would do well in a small home:
1: Bellini Chair in black, $150 at The Conran Shop
2: Ian Sofa in charcoal, $999 at Room & Board
3: Bjursta Dining Table in brown-black, $299 at IKEA
4: Easy Chair by Hans Wegner, $3295 at Design within Reach
Have you used dark-colored furniture in your home to minimize the visual space it takes up in a small space? Let us know in the comments below how/if it worked for you.
