Q: I'm working on furnishing my dining room and I'm in search of a round dining table with a black top. I had originally purchased the one in the picture, but it kept arriving damaged and I gave up on it. I'm looking for a simple round table capable of seating 4, but I can't find any that are black that are large enough (the one pictured was a good size at ~47").
I've looked at places that will let you choose a base and table top separately like Room and Board but the only black options they have are in granite, which I find a little too expensive and too heavy. Ideally I'd like to spend around $500 maximum, though I could spend more for something really great. Do you have any suggestions?

What about the HUSK dinette table from EQ3 for $449? It's 48". The glass looks pretty dark and if you want it completely opaque, you could always spray paint the underside of it black.

buy one on CL and paint it! We did that with a table we painted white: http://circa1951.blogspot.com/2011/05/kitchen-table-is-done.html
I would go with a traditional one with clean lines . I think that would complement your chairs better. Your current one kind of clashes with them.
Yeah, second the Craigslist+paint suggestion. I don't think you'll need to spend anywhere near $500 with that route.
Find a solid wood piece with an interesting base, if it's beat up even better (you'll get it cheap). Fill in the nicks/scratches with sandable wood putty. Prime the whole thing, spray paint the base chrome silver and buy a quart of black lacquer for the top.
Of course all this is moot if you live in a walk-up with no outdoor space or something. Good luck!
I am another one that is all for the craigslist + paint option- but I love a project and have the skills to pay the bills.
Some people don't have the time, space, know-how or will to tackle a project like that.
Have you considered a different shape? I know you said round is what you're looking for - but most rectangular tables don't take up much more space than a larger round table- most are about 60x35 so depending on how you arrange your space it seems like it could work in your room.
Rectangular tables usually come in way more styles and colors since they're a more common choice for most people. They're also easy to find for about $300 or less.
There are a lot of options at Macy's. I bought my sofa from there - one that's mid-century-ish and looks like a $2000 sofa from Crate & Barrell or Room & Board- but we got it on sale for $700.
If you have a store near you you can go check out a showroom and see if they have anything you like and ask if they have options for finishes.
I did find this link for a round table there- it's slightly smaller than the other table and has a smokey grey glass top instead of black- but I thought it would work in your space.

It may not be round, but the Torsby table by Ikea is a beautiful inexpensive table ($139 for the small and $219 for the large). I have it in the largest size in white. The top is laquer (in black) and the legs are chrome, very chic! http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89889735/ Good luck with your search!
Have you considered a black Saarinen Table. Very classic and would be a beautiful addition to your sense of style.

I bought this round, black table from Overstock: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Calais-Black-Round-Dining-Table/5230566/product.html It looks way better in person and is so affordable. Love it!
Which part of the table broke? It looks reflective in the photo, is it a glass table top? Is that what broke? I would say order it again and if it arrives broken AGAIN, call the company back and ask for a partial credit for the broken part. Then go to a glazier and get a new table top made with black glass. Ta-da! (Cuz it's a pretty sweet table)
With those amazing chairs, I'd look for a more traditional pedestal table in solid wood and paint it flat black with an oil-based, enamel paint like Rust-oleum. Flat black and flat white are miracle workers in my place. A hideous wopd-grain formica table with a great chrome base? Paint it with flat Rust-oleum. Works every time, and it is incredibly durable.
