On last night's episode of Design Star, one pair of designers painted the walls of a sitting room black. It reminded us that we've shown black walls here on AT for months...
What do you think?: Are black walls hot? Or not?

Black wall, love.
Black *room*, not so much.
I think it's like any single intense colour: if you use it as a backdrop (for things like the bear), or to make a space recede (like the walls behind the kitchen shelving) it works. It would also work in a hallway, or any place where light is unimportant.
The bathroom is very stylish, but I suspect it would be awfully depressing, after a while.
the black bathroom would be AWESOME if the flooring and other (unshown) built-in elements were white.
It works because it's so well lit on it's own.
I have a white tile and sink/tub/toilet bathroom sorely in need of a paintjob.....hmmm.......
My parents painted their living room black a couple years ago . With 2 walls that are mostly windows, one wall that has a large light colored wall unit taking up most of it, and light floors/white trim it certainly doesn't overpower the space. My mom painted it while my dad was out of the country on business -- she knew he'd say "No way" if asked but like it once he saw it... she was right.
It's not my cup of tea but for those who love it, enjoy!
Of course it's hot. If I suggest it, it must be hot:

Where's Magnaverde, he did black walls ages ago! Put up the link, babe!
thanks so much for posting this! such a coincidence as i really want to do a black wall and have been looking for inspirational photos to add to my pile!
I have been meaning to paint my kitchten wall black (with chalkboard paint) for months....I have the paint just lacking the motivation until now. Thanks!! I think the chalkboard paint might be less severe because you can always add chalk dust to change the color.....
I think that if you go with black walls, make sure you have plenty of natural light coming into the room....otherwise it may be a bit dreary. Black as an accent wall would probably be best if you are timid about using it.
WOW!!!! I never realized that a black wall could be so sexy! I especially love the high-gloss look in the bathroom, and the chalkboard black wall in the last photo. And I'm crazy about the gorgeous contrast of the white accessories against the black backgrounds. Delicious!
I love your black bathroom! Especially with the yellow chair. Just perfect!
BLACK IS WOW!
Caution, not everyone can pull it off.
personal opinion...The LA House Tour w/the bear & Lady In Red on a black wall is not something I would want to came home to...as long as the homeowner loves it, that is what counts!?!?!?
Love the rest of the photos!
I painted one black wall in a huge room that was all white and it was fantastic.
