Painted floors are huge in the design world right now. Painting your wood flooring can and will completely change the look of your home and create a unique and inspiring space. While some get koo-koo bananas with their paint colors — call me traditionalist, because I love the look of black and white floors in the bedroom.
Whether it's a high gloss or matte finish — black and white flooring can be so dramatic. Paint your old wood flooring matte white if you're going for a down home rustic vibe. It's honestly one of our absolute favorite looks and creates a super relaxing, inviting and comfortable environment.
The high gloss look isn't as popular but boy does it create drama! The great thing about high gloss black or white flooring is that it can be dressed up or down so easily! A high gloss white floor can be dressed up with an antique bed and over bed chandelier or it can be dressed down with a simple and modern bed frame and a colorful throw draped over the bed.

Dramatic, yes, but in my experience black floors are not for people who care about dust, dirt, or fur. Black (and dark floors generally) seem to magnify every little foreign speck. If you're not good about removing dust bunnies, I would not recommend dark floors in the bedroom.
I have a black and white shag rug. I love it no matter what anyone else says!
I love it!!!
I have wanted glossy black floors for ages - my floors are cheap 1980's parquet. Although I own the place I am a bit afraid to take the leap ...
loving that chandelier!
I recently had my floors refinished, and went from a sort of pickled finish to a very dark brown. It looks good, but it's true - if it bothers you - that it does show dust more easily. I never used to notice the little shedding bits from the wool rug before... A matte versus glossy finish might help with this.
Also, in the first pic, I love that "upside-down" lampshade.
I am thinking of doing a painted white floor in my new home. The previous owner pulled up the old carpet but never bothered to refinish etc. Does anyone know of a good tutorial/tips online?
They look great in the photos, but are too high maintenance for my real life.
We painted the floors black in my old bedroom. Pics are here;

In the new house we painted the dining room floors white;

I love them both equally but they do need frequent cleaning because you the dirt stands out.
Canadiancook, your house is a dream! I especially love the dining room. :)
I love the look of painted wood floors!
Very dark hardwood floors need to be swept... EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Every speck of dirt is highly visible.
