Zebra print isn't exactly the first print I think of when I picture decorating and furnishing my new apartment in a few months — but maybe it should be. Animal prints haven't completely faded into the background; they've just been quiet for a few years. But oh, things have changed and they are most definitely back!
Black and white has always and will always be an extremely popular color combination in home interiors. It's easy to accessorize and even easier to combine with other colors. But sometimes color blocking isn't enough and patterns are craved — that's where zebra print comes in. It doesn't have to be actual zebra hide — faux is usually better looking anyway.
Upholster a chunky ottoman in zebra print to make a chic statement or lay down a zebra print rug in the living room to take it to the next level. If you're really bold — slap up some zebra wallpaper in the bedroom or bathroom! With that said, zebra print doesn't always have to be black and white. Maybe a blue zebra print could make some really killer curtains.
Would you decorate with zebra print?

I have zebra peppered throughout my apartment, in different color combos. A brown/tan zebra shag rug and white zebra sheers in the bedroom, two blue/tan zebra striped dining chairs (for the heads of the table) and a black/white zebra upholstered stool that moves around from room to room. I think its just enough without being to in your face or "themey"
ha! talk about an unrealistically staged room--check out the placement of the end table in picture #1. At first I thought it was just the angle and my eyes were deceiving me.
I like zebra, but especially love giraffe because it's a print that takes a minute to place. You think, "cow? no.... cat? no.... oh! giraffe!"
Photo #3 is awesome. Who would ever know how to make blue zebra print look amazing?
A sheltered suburbanite, I prefer animal prints. Faux looks tacky only when low quality, too many are combined, or they're supposed to look sexy or real. I spent a lot of time as a kid in a friend's home with a beautiful full zebra hide, including mane and tail, on the living room floor. I felt a little sad imagining the more beautiful living zebra running with its family. Besides, animal hides usually reek of formaldehyde or some similar preservative. I'd feel differently if raised in rural regions where hunting and taxidermy remain popular, naturally.
I'm in with the Zebra print. I feel a little bad about a real zebra (I have no such feelings about actual cowhide though). I'm actually thinking about getting a zebra print cowhide rug for our bedroom. The pic of the curtains with that wallpaper...NICE!
Anyone have the internet wizardry to locate the photograph on the left in #1? Diggin' on that.
My living room rug is camel and blue-gray zebra print. It's a remnant of fitted carpet we had bound into a 9 x 13 rug. It's a nice neutral rug that still has personality, but it's best quality is that it doesn't show where the cats puke on it.
#3!!!!
@urbancricket - thank you! I was thinking the homeowner should really just lock the door and stop inviting over the in-laws, rather than sliding all of the furniture behind the door.
I love the orange wallpaper!! where can I find it?? really appreciate it!
