Always on the lookout for a good, sturdy camera clip that would fix the problem of hanging a heavy DSLR around our necks, we looked into Capture a few weeks ago. One of our readers suggested us to check out the Spider Holster so we took a look at the new Spider Holster Black Widow, a clip catered towards the everyday photographer, designed to hold lightweight DSLRs and point-and-shoot cameras. Read more about how this camera clip holds up after the jump.

Camera holsters are beneficial in terms of transferring the strain from your neck and back from carrying a camera around your neck or in a camera bag to your hip. An added bonus is that you can access your camera much quicker when it's attached to your belt or the Black Widow Belt the Spider Holster provides.

Assembly: The Spider Holster Black Widow comes with four parts: the Black Widow holster, a washer, a pin to screw onto your camera and a Velcro belt. The holster requires minimum assemblage, I simply fastened the pin to my point-and-shoot and slid the pin onto the holster. I clipped the holster to my belt and was ready to go.

Usage: The Black Widow is ideal for light cameras and point-and-shoots because compared to a large DSLR, the small cameras don't hit against your hip as much since they are lightweight. I felt secure with my camera on the holster, there was no way for it to fall off, yet it was so easy to pull out and shoot a photo whenever I wanted. I tried out the Black Widow on a weekend trip to see tide pools and I had no trouble climbing on rocks and wading in the shallow water. It was definitely handy.

Pros:
- Increased mobility
- Lightweight design
- Durable
- Easier accessibility

Cons:
- Lower camera protection
- Velcro belt style outdated
- Exposes camera to possible scratches

The Bottom Line (& Who Should Buy):
The Black Widow is ideal for the casual photographer that enjoys shooting photos outdoors. However, like any camera holster I've seen so far, the Black Widow would not work as well if you are an intense hiker or to carry during more active outdoor activities like mountain biking or rock climbing for fear of accidentally scratching up your camera. The Black Widow is extremely convenient to take on casual day trips and is great for easy access especially for museums or traveling by foot. The serious photographer with heavier equipment should look into the original Spider Holster.
