When we wrote about the Pendleton Woolen Mills' Mesa Stripe Mirror earlier today, we realilzed we didn't have a dedicated post on Pendleton Blankets. What better time than now? They go back some time: their Glacier National Park design was first woven in the early 20th century...
Today they produce 8 different stripe designs. We've pulled two here to show off: the green one up top is the Great Smoky Mountain National Park blanket and the one below is the Yosemite blanket. We love them both for their fresh, bright colors and high-contrast stripes. All of the blankets are made of 100% pure virgin wool and a queen size is priced at about $175. Not bad for beauty and function with a deep history.

These look very similar to the Hudson Bay point blanket traded with Native Americans way back in the 18th century! Big collector's items here in Canada. I know families that traditionally give them as wedding gifts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson's_Bay_point_blanket
