At last week's Apartment Therapy meetup, designers Alvaro Soto and Mauricio Sanchez of formatters presented their design for a unique hanging light fixture. Its form was inspired by the shape of audio waves recorded during a dinner with friends, and you can build one yourself from a kit that will be available shortly.
The kit contains 256 modules in 16 unique rows. Each piece is individually tagged so you can tell where it goes in the fixture.

The light kit is not currently in production, but you can reserve one in advance by pledging to support the project on Kickstarter. Blime will be available in multiple colors, including a wood veneer version (shown above) with color on the inside.
To learn more, check out the project's Facebook page.
Thanks, Alvaro and Mauricio!

Z2 iPod Dock and Wi...
Just backed them with a pledge...it will probably take me a week to assemble this, but it looks so nice in the pics. I can't wait!
Very cool! "Its form was inspired by the shape of audio waves recorded during a dinner with friends." I love that parametric modelling technology and craft have bridged intelligent design concept with constructability.
Huh, looks like a cut up 6-pack holder. *Lightbulb!*
Unless this is dramatically cheaper than a ready made fixture, the time it would take to build seems to negate paying a lot for something "high design". Also, I can't help but see a giant light bulb. I want to love the shape but it just isn't grabbing me. I do enjoy the forms that make up the light and the colors though!
Reminds me of some IKEA products I have assembled!!!
Really kind of cool, the natural toned one reminds me of a sea urchin shell only tall!
