Reading AT's post comments last night, we clicked on Carlene's name to find Knit Squirrel, her new blog that covers the "crafty side of the web," as well as notes on green living and a weekly series titled, "Illustration Friday." With a penchant for afghans, Chicagoan Carlene focused last week on this super-colored 70s striped number she created after much inspiration from other craft blogs. Of her creation, Spicy Ripple, she says:

Apparently I have a lot of yarn in the stash that all sort of goes together. Now *this* looks 70s, but in a good, kind of Missoni way. At least that's what I keep telling myself. It love it, I'm so happy with how it's turning out, and it coordinates not only with everything in my house, but everything in my closet as well...

We personally never tire of afghans. We own two (one from each grandmother), and they were wise enough to crochet timeless ones (color, pattern, style). Although we don't always keep them out since blankets, like clothes, tend to pile up in our bedroom if we aren't careful, we do think there is nothing better to throw on top of your duvet when you just need that one more layer in bed.
