I have the utmost respect for those willing to take on new adventures and ideas that haven't really been done before. Take Crystal Thomas, for instance. The Australian was looking to buy a home in Melbourne, but financially it just wasn't in the cards. Instead, she found this double decker bus on eBay and she's turning it into a vacation home. This you've got to see!
Crystal is working 10 hours a week on transforming her new vacation home as she lives and works a solid hour away from where it currently sits. She's aided by her friends and family members as they pull rivets, patch holes in the roof and unstick windows that are corroded with moss.
The journey won't be easy, but it should be as rewarding as it will be cool by the time she's done with it. Crystal has worked in the interior design field for several years so although she might be new to bus renovations, she's not new to spatial relations and making the most out of what you have.
Check out Readymade for an interview with Crystal about the process and what she hopes to achieve. We're excited to watch her push forward, make sure to hop over to her blog Double Decker Days for fabulous photos as they work and stories about their adventures

This is fascinating! Can we see more photos??
Coolest idea ever!

No offense, but, I know approximately a bazillion gypsies and travellers who have done this exact thing before. I have stayed on a double decker on a site past Watford (they're not that great on an exposed hillside).

OMG the hilarity of this website, sometimes, I can't tell you.
I've been wanting to make a school bus backyard home office for years. Can't wait to see this.
Very neat idea! I can't wait to see the outcome! Please post once complete.
Looking forward to seeing more! I love that a professional designer is taking on this project.
lim :
That's like saying since we've all seen a kitchen before, seeing the renovation of one wouldn't be interesting. Get off your high-horse dude.
Anyways... It'll be great to see the process of this - taking a bus that's in such decay and making it shine again will be a challenge with such a small crew. I'll definitely be following up on their Web site to see how the process goes. Thanks for sharing!
can u say added to my favs?
OMG lim, like, OMG!
I don't mean to be too self-promotional, but here's a great example of a cool trailer!

How have we got this far without mentioning Cliff Richard?
@stacy
I agree! One would never say a new kitchen was something that had never been done before. That would be beyond absurd. It would be as preposterous as the above assertion. I'm glad you're with me on this. ;)
/me still helplessly collapsed under a flurrying heap of omg
Wow so cool!! I would love to see more pics of this!
Lim, I think the point is more that a professional designer hasn't modded a double decker many times before, and they certainly haven't recorded the process in a blog for everyone to watch.
That's the new thing. :)
@ canny lassy: Have we got this far without mentioning Ken Kesey?
Reminds me if a build by Jake von Slatt.

This has the potential to be really phenomenal. I am interested to see what it looks like completed.
