A few weeks ago, we featured a top ten list of cookware for kids, and the June issue of Mothering has an article delving further into cooking with toddlers. While having toddlers help with food preparation may seem potentially dangerous or daunting, it needn't be. Bay area chef, Davi Dominguez, gives Mothering readers tips and simple recipes we love for involving toddlers in the cooking process. Some of the tips Dominguez gives are:
•Prepare the table with all items you need to create a fun workstation
•Follow the child's lead by letting them choose ingredients
•Tasting as you go along demonstrates the different textures and flavors of the foods
•Singing and making up stories about the foods you cook makes it extra fun
A great example of that is given in one of the three recipes shown:
"B is for Bruschetta Dipping Dear dips fingers in olive oil... Basil Baby tears up basil..."
The article adds, "Cooking with toddlers is a tasty reminder that the kitchen can be place of exploration and fun." So true! What do you and your toddler like to make in the kitchen?
